Sir,
The Education Ministry in India has laid much importance on providing toilets in schools so that students particularly girl students do not suffer.
If a survey is conducted in Rajouri district schools, it will be found that most of the schools do not have this facility.
In this regard, sometime back the people of Rajouri especially students had brought this matter in the notice of the concerned authorities by launching a protest. Now, it seems that the protest has not yielded any result as the concerned authorities have not yet started taking any step in this direction. It is quite disgusting that an important issue like this has not been taken into account yet.
Sanitation is an important part of education, and education is incomplete if students are not sanitised about it right from their school days. It has also been observed that many girl students do not attend school because they get embarrassed when they have to defecate in the open. The school authorities including the Panchayat members should allocate some funds for this purpose. Under MGNREGA scheme also, toilets could be constructed. The school authorities should explore a way out.
Yours etc….
Mushtaq Ahmad
