JAMMU, Feb 8: The Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed/Law & Order, K. Rajindra Kumar has lauded Sopori Academy of Music and Performing Arts for its initiatives to promote music and performing arts to bring them closer to the people at large.
Inaugurating the SaMaPa musical evening, organised in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Police at Police Auditorium Gulshan Ground here this evening, the ADGP observed that music is food for mind which relieves stress and brings harmony. He said that Abhay Rustum Sopori is playing a significant role in presenting the JK’s rich cultural heritage at the national and international levels by organising SaMaPa Sangeet Sammelans and music concerts. He said these events are also providing a good opportunity to the budding musicians to cultivate their interest in the music.
Mr. Rajindra said that men in khaki always remain busy with their professional duties and the function is part of stress management and entertainment for them. Besides performing their assigned duties of maintaining peace and order, JKP has been enduring to promote cultural activities and providing entertainment for the personnel and their families.
On the occasion, Mr. Rajindra felicitated Mr. Sopori, and his team for presenting spectacular programme which kept the audience spell-bound. He also appreciated the young sufi songstress Diva Ragini Rainu, who presented sufi muquams during the concert. He said that the Academy has taken JK music and santoor to new heights, promoting popularising classical and sufiana music across the world.
Among others, the function was attended by ADGP, Dr. Ram Lubhaya, IGPs, Owais Ahmad, Arun Kumar, Syed Javid Mujtaba Geelani and Yoginder Koul, DIGPs, S. S. Khandari, T. Punchok, Johney Williams, Vijay Singh Sambyal and M. M. Sadiq besides prominent citizens and music lovers.
Yesterday, on 7th day of SaMaPa event, a music concert was held at Govt MAM College, Prof Nalini Kohli, Director Colleges, was the chief guest on the occasion while the College Principal Prof Ramesh Chander, Dr Twinle Suri, Prof Kailash Mehra, Prof Liyakat Ali were also present in the event.
The concert was organised by the Gandhian Studies Centre in coordination with the Department of Music.
