Rains continue in Valley, temp dips

SRINAGAR, Aug 27: Day temperature in Valley witnessed slight dip as intermittent rains continued to lash Kashmir for third consecutive day today.
A Meteorological Department official said that the moderate rainfall lashed all parts of Valley today and as a result the day temperature remained below normal by several notches again. The rains have given rise to chill in morning and evening hours.
The official said the day temperature in Srinagar witnessed a dip by one notch due to continued downpour. The official said that the Srinagar recorded 22.9 degree Celsius maximum temperature against yesterday’s 23.9 while the minimum temperature settled at 17.2 degree Celsius. Except Gulmarg, the temperature in other parts of the Valley also witnessed dip but remained below the normal temperature.
According to MeT official, Qazigund recorded 24.0 degree Celsius maximum temperature while minimum temperature settled at 16.8 degree Celsius. Pahalgam recorded 20.8 degree Celsius day temperature and night temperature settled at 13.9 degree Celsius. The MeT official said maximum temperature in Gulmarg was recorded 17.2 degree Celsius while the night temperature settled at 11.0 degree Celsius.
Kokernag in South Kashmir recorded 23.2 degree Celsius maximum temperature and 14.8 degree Celsius minimum temperature. The day temperature in Kupwara settled at 24.4 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature remained 14.8 degree Celsius. Leh, which is also called cold desert, recorded a 26.3 degree Celsius maximum temperature while the minimum temperature remained 17.1 degree Celsius. The day temperature in Kargil settled at 24.4 degree Celsius while the minimum temperature remained 11.2 degree Celsius
The MeT official said that there is possibility of light rain/thundershowers in Srinagar in next 24 hours. “Maximum & Minimum temperatures will be around 24°C and 17 °C respectively,” he said.
