SAMBA, Aug 11: With heavy rains, a few parts of the district were inundated and water also entered several houses at village Mananu of Block Nud due to poor drainage system.
Heavy downpour took residents by surprise.
Several residents of village Mananu struggled as the rains left the streets inundated. Rain water also entered several houses in the village.
“Water started to enter my house during the intervening night of August 10 and 11. There was knee-deep water inside the house and we had to seek refuge in a neighbour’s house. Water has actually entered a number of houses in the locality. There is no way for the water to drain,” the residents namely Tirth Ram, Mohan Lal, Dhani Ram and Gopal Dass said.
“Every year, during the monsoon, local residents approach the authorities with their demand for proper drainage in the locality. But no action has been taken till now”, the residents said, adding that it was not a difficult task for the authorities to provide drainage facilities.
“There are no adequate drainage facilities in the area. Every year, we drain rainwater from houses in the locality”, the residents alleged.
However, Naib Tehsildar and concerned Patwari reached to the spot and took cognizance of the matter.
“We have taken all measures to drain the water from the locality”, an official said on the condition of the anonymity.
Meanwhile, rain water also entered into Krishan Steel factory at Supwal, resulting into loss of property worth several lakhs. Crops also got damaged due to rains. The Samba-Mansar road also got closed due to rains and some vehicles got stranded on the road.
