JAMMU, Aug 11: Demanding restoration of statehood to J&K, National Democratic Party of India ( NDPI), J&K UT president Rajesh Gupta has urged the Government to protect the land rights of the native people of Jammu and Kashmir.
“There has been a marked fear among the locals regarding the settlement of outsiders in the UT, following the abrogation of the Article. There is also an air of distrust and insecurity over the settlement of people from the other States,” he said in a statement.
The NDPI also expressed concern over ignoring genuine aspirations of Jammu region and said that this has generated a feeling of disempowerment and discrimination among the people. He alleged that Jammu’s yearning for development and progress witnessed roadblocks in recent years, as a result of which the people were suffering.
“People of Jammu have been taken for granted just for their overwhelming faith in the system that has terribly failed them-be it employment, development or share in the welfare schemes. This eventually has resulted in despair and desperation that if not addressed could prove counter-productive,” he warned.
