Boy washed away in flooded Nallah

JAMMU, June 16: With rain in many parts of J&K during past 24 hours, a sharp fall in the temperature at several places has been experienced while a boy was washed away in a flooded Nallah in district Udhampur late last evening.
The people of Jammu, Kathua and Samba areas had a great relief from the intense hot weather conditions with mercury touching 44 to 46 degrees Celsius during last couple of days.
Jammu City today recorded a maximum temperature of 32.3 degrees Celsius which was 5.8 deg C below normal. The Temple City had recorded 41.0 deg C temperature on Sunday while on Saturday the day temperature in Jammu remained 43.6 deg C. Within four to five days, the City recorded about 12 degrees fall in temperature.
Holy township of Katra today recorded a maximum temperature of 29.9 deg C, Batote 23.1 deg, Bhaderwah town 23.6, Banihal 21.4 deg C Rajouri 38.6, Samba 40.2, Kishtwar 31.3 and Kishtwar 31.3 deg C temperature.

Parts of Jammu region including Reasi, Udhampur, Doda, Rajouri and some hilly areas of Kathua experienced rain during past 24 hours. The intensity of rain was high in some hilly areas of Udhampur and Doda.
During flood in a Nallah in Pancheri area of Udhampur district, a local boy was washed away late last evening. The tragic incident took place in Kultyar Panchayat of Tehsil Pancheri. The victim identified as Avinash (8 yrs), son of Pritam Singh, was swept away in the strong current of water while crossing a Nallah.
Till late night, a search operation was carried out by the team of Police Station Pancheri and local people, but due to bad weather, success could not be achieved. SDRF team was provided by the district administration and the body could be traced today.
Meanwhile, Meteorological Department today forecast isolated to scattered rain across Jammu and Kashmir over the coming days.
A MeT official said that brief spells of rain and thundershowers, accompanied by gusty winds, are likely at isolated to scattered locations across Kashmir till June 20.
A more active weather system is expected between June 21 and 23, with generally cloudy skies and intermittent rain and thundershowers likely in many parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
In the past 24 hours, the Jammu region witnessed fairly widespread light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunder and gusty winds. Jammu recorded 46.0 mm of rainfall during this period.
Meanwhile, Srinagar also recorded a drop in temperature today. The summer capital recorded the day temperature of 25.2 deg C, tourist resort Gulmarg 17.0, Pahalgam 20.1 deg C, Kupwara 25.0, Kokernag 21.4 while Qazigund town of south Kashmir registered a temperature of 22.8 deg C on Monday.
The MeT has predicted rain at the scattered places across J&K on June 21 and 22. However, from June 15 to 20 the weather will almost remain dry in the region.
