Rail service remains suspended in Kashmir

SRINAGAR:Rail service remained suspended  for the second day today in the Kashmir valley for security reasons today, a railway official said.

He said all trains running between Srinagar-Badgam-Baramulla in north Kashmir have been suspended keeping in view of the damage caused to railway property in the past.       Similarly, rail services between Badgam in central Kashmir-Srinagar-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region have been suspended for security reasons.

This is the second time rail service in the valley has been suspended during the past one week for security reasons following tense situation, particularly in south Kashmir, where massive protests were witnessed at several places since a Kashmiri trucker, Zahid Bhat succumbed to his burn injuries in a New Delhi hospital on October 18.

There were fresh clashes between security forces and ”pro-freedom” demonstrators yesterday in which a number of people were injured.

Zahid and two others, including a policeman, were injured after a Kashmir-bound truck was attacked at Udhampur in Jammu region on October 9 our beef rumours. (UNI)
