Rail run resumes in Kashmir

SRINAGAR:Rail service in the Kashmir valley resumed today after remaining suspended for security reasons following strike called by separatists and others to protest death of a trucker Zahid Bhat.

Zahid and two others, including a policeman, received burn injuries in a petrol bomb attack by protestors over beef rumours at Udhampur in Jammu region on October 9.

“We have today resumed  rail run between Srinagar-Badgam-Baramulla in north Kashmir and Srinagar-Qazigund in south Kashmir and Banihal in Jammu region,” a Railway official said.

He said the service was suspended yesterday due to security reasons.

Thousands of people are availing rail service which is fast and cheap as compared to road transport in the Kashmir valley, where traffic jam for hours has become a daily routine. (UNI)
