Rahul, Azad condemn arrests

JAMMU, Aug 16: Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi has condemned the arrest of J&K PCC (I) chief G A Mir and spokesperson Ravinder Sharma in Jammu today.
In a tweet, Rahul said with this “unprovoked action” against a national political party, the Government has delivered another blow to democracy.
“When will this madness end”?, he asked.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad has also condemned the action of the present State Government for not allowing senior Congress leader and Party spokesperson Ravinder Sharma to address the press conference today afternoon at Congress party headquarter, Jammu.
Azad condemned the State Government’s action of arresting Sharma and taking him to some undisclosed location. He further said that this action of the State Government is in total violation of any democratic norms.
“On one side the State and Central Governments are asserting that Jammu is normal and people are celebrating, while at the same time the leaders of opposition parties are not even allowed to address the press conferences,” Azad said.
“This double speak has exposed the Government on number of occasions,” he added.
Azad also demanded immediate release of Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti, ex-CMs and other senior leaders of all the political parties including Ravinder Sharma, MLC.
