Radio Kashmir goes off air

Excelsior Correspondent
Srinagar, Apr 18: For the first time in the history of Kashmir, Radio Kashmir Srinagar went off the air this morning and is yet to be restored after its transmitter developed a technical snag.
An official of the Radio Station said that Radio Kashmir Srinagar has gone off the air at about 11:37am today as the 300 kilowatt Narbal transmitter developed a technical snag and despite hectic efforts the services are yet to be restored.
The standby 100 kilowatt transmitter is already down with technical snag for last two months and no efforts have been made to restore it.
Sources said that Assistant Engineer deployed for duty at Narbal 300 kilowatt transmitter is unauthorizedly absent. They said that he has gone out of Station without permission.
Another Engineer has retired recently and the place has not been filled leading to the crisis.
Director Radio Kashmir Srinagar, Syed Himayun Kaiser said that the fault at the Narbal transmitter is the cause of disruption of broadcasting services at Radio Kashmir Srinagar and consequently all programmes are being broadcast from FM station.
