Quality execution possible with public involvement: Rana

NAGROTA, Sept 24: Launching mega Rs 10 crore developmental initiatives in Badsoo village of Dansal Block in the Nagrota Assembly constituency under Cluster Model Village scheme, MLA and Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana today said that public involvement in the process of planning, execution and monitoring alone can lead to tangible benefit to the rural population.
Interacting with the people at Badsoo, Rana urged the executing agencies to involve people at each stage of execution of the mega project and ensure that quality work is done to their satisfaction.
“People are best judges to fix prioritise of the works that would be more beneficial to the village community”, Rana said, adding that their involvement will largely help in developing the village on modern lines in a phased manner.
He complimented the rural community for their village being brought under the cluster scheme and said his endeavour would be to vigorously pursue the matter with regard to bringing the other areas of the constituency under different schemes for development.
The Cluster Model Village scheme envisages upgradation of eight kilometers of roads, construction of three community halls at a cost of Rs 1.35 crore, three Rural Information Centres at a cost of Rs 24 lakh, one dispensary, up-gradation of three grave yards and three cremation grounds, 10 Anganwari Centres involving a cost of Rs 90 lakh, six smart classes in three schools at a cost of Rs 30 lakh, two stadia involving  cost of Rs 50 lakh besides other rural oriented works.
While spelling out broad contours of the scheme, Rana hoped frequent interaction between beneficiaries and the executing agencies will lead to successful implementation of the initiative, aimed at ameliorating the lot of village communities. He said rural development holds key to progress of any nation and keeping this in view, the scheme assumes immense significance.
The MLA Nagrota said that raising of community assets belong to entire village and therefore there is greater need of ensuring use of standard material as per quality control norms. He also called for putting in place an effective monitoring mechanism to ensure completion works  in a stipulated time frame.
Rana emphasized crucial role of Rural Development Department towards progress and prosperity of the rural areas. He sought adequate awareness among the people about the schemes tailored for their welfare, saying this can be done by disseminating information through various modes of communication and by holding gram sabhas.
“Feedback on the status of schemes and needs of a particular area is important feature of developmental strategy for rural area and this factor should not be ignored by the implementing agencies”, he said and exuded confidence that the people will extend their whole hearted support to the programmes to be undertaken for making Badsoo a real model village in the Jammu district.
