JAMMU, May 24: The triennial conference of the Punjab & Sind Bank Employees Union, Jammu & Kashmir, affiliated with the All India Bank Employees Association was held here today.
The conference witnessed participation of around 20 delegates and observers representing various branches, along with guests from different bank unions and the Jammu Province Bank Employees Federation.
During the conference, new office bearers of the union were elected unanimously.
The newly elected office bearers included Mukesh Sharma (Simbal) as the president, Pooja Mehta (Shalamar) as vice-president, Avtar Singh (Nanak Nagar) as general secretary, Chand Raj (Kathua), Kulbhushan Sharma (Kathua) and Geeta (Shalamar) as assistant secretaries and Pranav Kandhari (Exchange Road) as treasurer.
Earlier, the event was inaugurated by Comrade SPS Virk, General Secretary of the All India Punjab & Sind Bank Staff Organisation.
The inaugural session was presided over by Comrade Shashank Raina, president of the Union.
Several prominent leaders, including Comrade Jagpreet Singh, Comrade Arun Kumar Gupta and Comrade Tara Singh, were present and addressed the gathering.
The dignitaries were welcomed by Comrade Avtar Singh.
In his address, Comrade SPS Virk highlighted the country’s socio-economic scenario and stressed the importance of the bank employees’ movement in strengthening the banking sector. He expressed concern over Government policies aimed at privatization of public sector banks and urged the working class to remain united in defending public sector banking.
Comrade Arun Kumar Gupta assured full support to the union leadership in J&K.
During the delegate session, general secretary Avtar Singh presented the “General Secretary’s Report,” outlining the union’s activities over the past term.
The report was unanimously approved by the delegates.
Treasurer Comrade Mukesh Sharma also presented the statement of accounts, which received unanimous approval.
