PSOs foil attack on Sarpanch

SRINAGAR, Sept 15: The security guards of a Sarpanch this evening foiled an attempt to kill him in Sopore area of North Kashmir.
Sources said that two militants barged into the house of Sarpanch, Farooq Ahmad Bhat, of village Chooru in Sopore.
The two police men who were deployed for his security fired several rounds. Two militants, who had barged into Sarpanch’s house to kill him, fled away.
Police and 52 Rashtriya Rifles of Army launched an operation in the village and its adjacent areas for the two militants.
This is the second militancy related incident in past 24 hours as unknown militants shot dead a former Hizbul Mujahideen militant, Shabir Ahmad Mir, at Ramnagri village in Shopian district of South Kashmir last night.
Army and police launched searches last night in the area to nab the militants responsible for his killing but they had fled after carrying out the attack.
In the meantime, Mir was buried today in his native village amid tight security. Hundreds of people took part in his last rites.
