PSA of 26 revoked, 10 released from Jail

Srinagar, Jan 10: Administration today revoked Public Safety Act (PSA) against 26 persons including former Kashmir Bar Association president who were detained in August this year ahead of scrapping of special status of Jammu and Kashmir and 10 of them have been released from Central Jail while rest of them are being released tomorrow.
These people were detained and booked under the PSA after August 5 last year when the Centre revoked special status of the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated it into two Union Territories. The list includes former Bar Association president, Nazir Ahmed Ronga who is from Srinagar and rest 11 are from North Kashmir and 14 from South Kashmir.
Ten detainees who were lodged in Central Jail Srinagar were released this evening and rest of them who are detained in Uttar Pradesh jails are being released tomorrow.
The persons whose detention has been revoked are Rouf Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Hassan Dar of Dar, Mohallah Samboora, Tehsil Pampore, District Pulwama; Abdul Salam Rather son of Late Hajai Mohammad Ramzan Rather of Dewan Bagh, District Baramulla; Tanveer Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Khaliq Bhat of Maqbool Abad, Walhootra, Rafiabad, District Baramulla; Mohammad Umer Dar son of Abdul Rasheed Dar of Patoosa Rafiabad, District Baramulla; Mudasir Ahmad Tantray son of Haji Ali Mohammad Tantray of Rohama Rafiabad, District Baramulla; Rameez Ahmad Hajam son of Mohammad Rajab Hajam of Panzgam, Tehsil Awantipora, District Pulwama; Mohammad Imran Dar son of Mohammad Ibrahim Dar of Kripalpora Payeen Matipora Singhpora Pattan, Baramulla; Muzafar Ahmad Dar son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar of Lathishort Bomai, Sopore, Dist Baramulla; Mohammad Maqbool Yatoo son of Abdul Ahad Yatoo of Hygam Sopore, District Baramulla; Showkat Ahmad Shah son of Mohammad Azad Shah, of Chandhara, Tehsil Pampore, District Pulwama; Mohammad Arif Lone son of Late Abdul Razaq Lone of Yanner Pahalgam; Ishfaq Ahmad Ganie son of Late Ghulam Rasool Ganie of Ari-Gohal Akad, Distt. It may be mentioned here that the Excelsior last month had reported that administration had sent a list of around 40 detainees booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) in August this year to the Union Home Ministry for consideration of their release.
Around 450 persons are detained under PSA and majority of them are lodged in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana jails. They were mostly detained around August 5 when Articles 370 and 35A were scrapped and Jammu and Kashmir State was re-organised into Union Territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.
