Provincial Conference of USTA held, new office bearers elected

KATHUA, Dec 26: Day long 8th Provincial Conference of J&K United School Teachers Association (USTA) was held here today under the presidium of Hari Singh, Kanta Devi, Rajiv Kumar, Roop Chand, Raj Kumar, Bashir Ahmed, Siraj-ud-Din and Youns Rahi.
During the conference, new team of office bearers was elected with Rajiv Kumar as President, Hari Singh as General Seceratry, Younis Rahi as Senior Vice President, Bashir Ahmed, Siraj-ud-Din, Ashok Kumar and Ganesh Dutt as Vice President. Sunil Thapa, Zulfkar Ali Malik and Balwant Singh were elected as Seceratry, Kanta Devi as chief organizer, Sandesh Kumar and Anju Saini as Organizers and Angat Singh as Office Seceratry. Four member advisory committee was also elected.
The conference was addressed by C N Bharti from Haryana and Mahavir Shiag from Rajasthan, general secretary and vice president of School Teachers Federation of India, respectively.
The conference threadbare discussed the socio economic and political scenario of the country in general and UT of Jammu and Kashmir in particular. It discussed the problems of teaching community in the Union Territory, particularly with the reference to long pending demands of teaching community and various means and methods to sharpen and strengthen teachers movement in the wake of lackadaisical approach and apathy of the authority towards working conditions and professional dignity of teaching community.
The conference unanimously decided to stand solidarity with forces of communal harmony and exponents of democratic and constitutional value of the country. In various resolutions passed by the house, the Central and local Government was urged to stop forthwith the privatization and commercialization of education to ensure equitable and quality based education to all and particularly to the wards of socially and culturally backward and downtrodden sections of the society.
USTA conference also called upon the Government to make regular appointments on all available vacancies and ensure to create need and subject based posts of the teachers in Government schools and stop recruiting teachers on meagre wages and contractual basis. The conference took strong exception to unreasonable delay in release of salary, no transparency in transfers, delay in regularize all incharge Lecturers, Head masters etc.
