KATHUA, Nov 30: A deputation of BJP workers led by DDC chairman, Col (retd) Mahan Singh called on Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rahul Yadav today and submitted a memorandum of demands addressed to Lt. Governor of J&K UT to him.
The delegation demanded relief for farmers in anti encroachment drive launched by district administration on the direction of High Court. DDC chairman, Col Mahan Singh said that there are large number of poor people and farmers cultivating the State land since independence to earn their livelihood in Kathua district which includes the Pakistani refugees. These people are cultivating the State land and paying the levy to Government and their mutation and Girdhawari is entered in revenue record since long.
Now the district administration has started anti encroachment drive against these poor people and farmers having Girdhawari in revenue records.
In such circumstances these people have shown serious resentment over the action taken by district administration. They are protesting against the Government policies which are totally anti poor people and marginal farmers. They have no other sources of income to earn their livelihood. Some farmer are cultivating their fields on Zero Line and living in worse condition while fighting against Pak sponsored proxy war,. Even the West Pakistani refugees who have been allotted the State land by the Government have also been issued the notice to vacate it, the delegation added.
In such circumstances the unrest has been created among the poor people having only one to ten Marla of land for their residence. The Government needs not to dislocate these people on humanitarian ground and relax them from anti encroachment drive against State land. The Deputy Commissioner, Kathua assured them to forward the same to LG and other concerned authorities.
