Provide relief to IAY, BPL people from increasing power tariff: Vakil

Excelsior Correspondent
Jammu, Jan 28: Member AICC and former Minister, Abdul Gani Vakil today appealed the Chief Minister for providing relief to common man especially to those belonging to IAY and BPL category from discriminatory power tariff burden and asked him not to ignore ground realities and keep in mind that masses will express their anguish in coming elections.
In a statement, he said the people belonging to BPL and IAY category are asked to pay the power tariff at the rate of 360 and 550 which they are not at all in a position to pay. He said there is no logic in realizing the same tariff under IAY, BPL and general category because it defeats the objective of creating IAY and BPL categories. Mr. Vakil said that in Gh. Nabi Azad’s tenure an order was issued which provided for no electricity, no charges but its implementation was impeded for unknown reasons.
Former Minister said that people of the State have suffered a lot during decades of turmoil  and their poor financial status is not a hidden story but the present Government rather than minimizing the miseries of masses, have left no stone unturned to multiply the same.
He said that power scenario in the whole state particularly in rural and far flung areas continues to be grim and unsatisfactory and despite this fact, inflated bills are realized from poor people.
