Assembly Panel to assess ground situation

JAMMU, Jan 28: The House Committee (HC) of Legislative Assembly constituted “to ascertain the factual position regarding the illegal encroachment of Wet lands in Kashmir valley” met here today under the chairmanship of MLA, Mohammad Yasin Shah.
The Committee discussed the issue of encroachment upon wet lands in Srinagar, Baramulla and Bandipore districts and conversion of Agricultural and Kahcharai Land for residential and commercial purposes with particular reference to Shalteng and its adjoining areas extending to 10 km radius failing within the administrative jurisdiction of Srinagar, Baramulla and Bandipora districts.
Legislators, G.M. Saroori, Ashok Kumar, Syed Basharat Bukhari and Javid Ahmed Dar gave their valuable suggestions to contain such encroachments.
Threadbare discussion was held on the series of issues and the Committee decided to constitute a panel to study the ground situation at all wetlands and submit report to enable the committee to make further recommendations.

Singh, APCCF/ Director Environment & Remote Sensing, Suresh Chugh, Vice Chairman SDA, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Chief Engineer, I&FC, Jammu, Director Rakhs& Forms, Joint Director Agriculture, Jammu, Joint Commissioner Planning, SMC, Executive Engineer, Irrigation Div-II, Secretary LAWDA, SE, Hyd, Baramulla, Additional Secretary Forest, besides senior officers of Assembly Secretariat  were present in the meeting.
