JAMMU, Nov 10: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Gulchain Singh Charak has demanded allotment of 5 marla plots for the border people affected by Pakistani firing and proper education facilities for their children.
In the Block Congress Committee (BCC) meeting held at Bishnah today, Mr Charak who was chief guest on the occasion sought to draw attention of the Government towards the burning issues of the border farmers and other people residing along the International Border especially in Bishnah, R S Pura and Samba belt. He demanded that border villagers be provided at least 5 marla plots at the safer zones. The studies of their children have also been hit with the firing along the borders. The Government must ensure shifting of schools to the safer locations so that their studies are not affected, he demanded.
Mr Charak said the Government should make proper arrangement for harvesting their crops by arranging harvesting machines/ labourers as they are not being allowed to go into their fields. He further demanded that a special team of officials under some nodal officer be constituted for the assessment of their crops in such areas so that compensation for the same is paid in case the crops are damaged.
The BCC members also urged the R&B, PHE, PDD and PHE, I&FC authorities to take necessary steps for repairing of the damaged roads, proper arrangements for the provision of electricity and de-silting of canals/ distributaries etc.
They said there was fear among the border villagers due to Pakistani firing as many have been injured in last several weeks. The farmers have stopped going into their fields due to the fear of shelling. The BCC members also demanded compensation for the damage caused to their houses and properties. They expressed gratitude to the Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and PCC president Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz for paying visit to this border belt to take stock of situation and positive assurance to render them help.
