JAMMU, Dec 22: As the protest demonstrations for death penalty to Delhi gang-rape accused continued for third consecutive day across Jammu region, the civil society expressed its solidarity with the victim and anguish against the rapists by taking out candle light processions, here today.
Students of various colleges and schools, including GGM Science College, MAM College , SPMR Commerce College and Mubarak Mandi School boycotted their classes and held protest demonstrations.
Taking out a protest march towards Jewel Chowk area and then back to the college premises, GCW Gandhi Nagar students vowed to continue their struggle till the rape victim gets justice. They were carrying placards and raising slogans against the Government.
Students of Government Higher Secondary School Mubarak Mandi assembled near the Gandhi Nagar Church and then moved towards Green Belt Park in the form of a procession amidst raising of slogans for death penalty to the rapists.
Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya Gandhi Nagar also took out a protest march upto Green Belt for expressing their anguish against the incident
A peaceful candle light march was taken out between Green Filed ground in Gandhi Nagar and Bahu Plaza in which a large number of locals and children participated.
The march was organised by Pratibha Bakshi in association with Binesh Yusuf Khan of Presentation Convent, Praguni Gandotra of DPS Jammu, Meghna Singh Jaswal of Presentation Convent and Radhika Wahi of KC Public School.
The participants in march were raising slogans for stringent punishment to the rapists and also carrying placards displaying solidarity with the victim. The Minister for Revenue and Relief Raman Bhalla was seen encouraging children.
Insurance employees also held a strong protest expressing their anguish against the Dalhi gang rape incident. The protest was organised by women sub-committee of North Zone Insurance Employees Association. The protesters raised slogans for stern punishment to the culprits for giving a strong message.
Speaking on the occasion, Neelam Sharma demanded that both Houses of the Parliament should come forward to enact strict laws against crimes like rape and also fast track courts for early decision on such matters. Others who spoke, included Sushma Jamwal, Alkiya Sharma, Reva Kohli and Rekha.
Students of Bhargava Degree College Samba took out a protests rally from the college premises and reached Main Chowk of National Highway Samba. They were carrying placards and raising slogans for justice to the rape victim. The College staff members also joined the protest rally by students.
Candle light march were taken out by the local youth in Samba and women in Kathua who expressed their solidarity with the rape victim and demanded death penalty to the accused.
In Udhampur, students of different colleges, schools and youth took out protest marches in the town for expressing their solidarity with the rape victim. The protesters raised slogans against Delhi Government and demanded stern action against the culprits.
Students of Degree College Rajouri boycotted their classes and held a protest demonstration. Condemning the Delhi rape incident, the protesting students also took out a march in the main bazaar and blocked the Jammu -Poonch road disrupting traffic for more than an hour. Beopar Mandal Rajouri also held a protest against the Delhi gang rape incident.
