JAMMU, May 24:  On 100th day of their ongoing  hunger strike, Contractual Lecturers (10plus2) took out a protest march and tried to block ever busy Tawi bridge after Police did not allow them to proceed towards the Divisional Commissioner’s office near Rail Head complex.
Amidst raising of slogans in support of their demands, the protesting Contractual Lecturers, mostly females,  marched from Press Club Jammu towards Div Com office. However, they were stopped by Police near  Bikram Chowk following which the protesters staged a dharna on the ever busy Tawi Bridge for some time.
On being persuaded by Police, the agitating Contractual Lecturers lifted the dharna and re-assembled at the hunger strike venue at Exhibition Ground.
The protesting Contractual Lecturers are demanding  their regularization as per Civil Services Special Provision Act 2010, a policy framed for the regularization of all Ad-hoc/ Contractual/ Consolidated employees and continuation of their services vide Govt order No.1328 GAD of 2009, dated 24-09-2009.
While addressing the protest dharna, one of the agitating Contractual Lecturer,  Balvinder Kour said that during their period of services they have taught the students in far flung areas on a meager salary of Rs 7000/month  but now the Government was forcing them to sit on hunger strike for their genuine right. She threatened that if the Government does not concede  the demands of Contractual Lecturers, they would resort to direct action.
Those who observed  chain hunger strike today, included Jeevan Kumar, Balvinder Kour, Seema Rajput, Kanchan Bala, Shapeel Singh, Rakesh Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, Ranjan Bala, Zobar Bhat, Javid Iqbal, Pankaj Sharma, Surinder Kumar, Sanjay Gupta, Saroj Bala, Radhika Parishar, Anil Kumar, Rakesh Kumar and  Madhvi Sharma.
