Protest over partially gutting of Masjid

Srinagar, July 23: A Masjid was partially damaged in a mysterious fire which broke out in Beerwah area of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district in the wee hours today.
Residents said that the Hanafia Masjid at village Ahongam in Beerwah was partially damaged in the fire that erupted in the under construction first floor of the Masjid. They alleged that Masjid was set afire as they saw few people running out the Masjid when fire broke out before dawn.
Police, however, said that they have registered a case and are investigating the cause of the fire.
The residents of the area protested against the fire incident and demanded arrest of those behind the fire. The entire area witnessed shutdown and traffic on Beerwah road remained paralysed and shops were closed and business activities suspended in protest against the incident in the entire area.
Earlier, shrine of Baba Hanifuddin was gutted in a mysterious fire in a nearby village at Rathsuna in Beerwah area on July 14 and prior to this  Dastageer Sahib shrine at Khanyar was gutted in a mysterious blaze on June 25.
