JAMMU, Feb 18: Jammu West Assembly Movement (JWAM) today held a protest demonstration over the proposed move of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to levy user charges on vehicles plying on Jammu-Lakhanpur and Jammu-Udhampur stretch.
The protestors under the leadership of JWAM president, Sunil Dimple, blocked Amphalla-Janipur Road at New Plot and raised slogans against NHAI.
Addressing the protesters, Sunil Dimple said the proposed move of NHAI is an anti-people move and a black law. He urged upon Governor NN Vohra to immediately stop this “black law”, as the proposed road tax will put an avoidable additional burden on commuters, pilgrims and tourists.
Dimple termed it a clever move of the Narendra Modi Government to put the people of Jammu and Kashmir in financial strain under Governor’s rule.
He appealed the people to come forward to oppose this proposed decision of NHAI to establish toll posts at Lakhanpur, Thandikhui and Ban in Nagrota.
