JAMMU, May 10: The family members of a minor girl along with local people today blocked the Jammu-Poonch highway against delay by police in handing over of minor girl, who was abducted by a youth from Purkhoo area few days back.
The people including women blocked Jammu-Poonch highway near Mishriwala by staging dharna in protest against alleged delay by police in restoring recovered girl to the family. The protestors also tried to enter Kanachak Police Station which led to minor scuffle between the protestors and the police personnel.
Ratno Devi, wife of Hans Raj and mother of the minor girl said that her daughter was abducted by Rakesh Kumar alias Pipli of Bathera on May 8 and both were recovered on the same day by the police from Jammu.
“The police instead of informing the family members regarding the recovery of girl kept both in their custody”, she alleged, adding “police is threatening her daughter.”
“We will intensify protest if the girl is not restored to us”, she said.
Later, senior police officers including SDPO Domana Sandeep Mehta rushed to the spot and assured the protestors that their demand will be addressed in the shortest possible time. After the assurance from the senior police officers, the protestors dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on Jammu-Poonch highway.
When contacted Mr Mehta said that on May 8, Hans Raj, father of the abducted girl, lodged a complaint with Police Station Kanahchak that Rakesh Kumar alias Pipli of Bathera has abducted his daughter.
After registering case, police conducted raids at several places and finally recovered the girl and arrested the abductor. The girl was produced before the Magistrate and in her statement recorded before the Magistrate she refused to go with her parents on the ground that the latter were forcibly trying to marry her against her wishes, SDPO informed, adding “on this Court ordered that the girl be sent to Neha Ghar till completion of the investigations”.
