JAMMU, Oct 25: Wearing onion garlands, score of Dogra youth held a protest against the spiraling prices of onions and potato in the country, especially in the union territory of J&K.
The protest was organized by Nikhil Sharma under the supervision of Partap Singh Jamwal (political activist) along with Bhanu Partap Singh Goria. Aggressive youth raised slogans against the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, holding it responsible for the price hike.
Addressing the media, Partap Singh Jamwal said that the Government has not taken any steps against hoarding of onions or take action against any culprit. He said the responsibility of salvaging the situation lies with the Government. He said that the Government is not taking sincere steps to reduce the prices of onion and potato.
Nikhil Sharma and Bhanu Partap said that the prices of onion and potato have been fluctuating every hour and the Governments have failed to take any action. They said the steep rise in the price of onion has resulted in a marked decrease in trading activity in the wholesale market which has affected the head load workers. These workers have been idle for the last month.
Those who participated in the protest were Arun Mehra, Kapil Dev, Surinder Chouhan, Vinu Rajput, Anjul Kolhi, Amit Singh, Lakshya, Abhi, Lovesh, Ankush Sharma, Ankiet, Aakash Meenia, Sumit Dogra and others.
