JAMMU, Dec 25: The family members and relatives of a lady, who was found dead on the railway track in Raya Morh area in district Samba yesterday, held protest at Satwari Chowk here.
Accompanied by large number of people, the family members carrying the body of the deceased girl blocked the vehicular movement on the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway near Satwari.
Alleging foul play in the death of a married woman identified as Ashu Devi wife of Lakhwinder Singh, resident of Bagoona village, the protestors demanded immediate arrest of the deceased’s husband.
One of the family members, while talking to media persons said that the victim was married to Lakhwinder Singh some two years ago and since then they were torturing the woman for dowry.
The victim’s father Haqiqat Singh alleged that Ashu’s husband and her in-laws often beat her daughter for dowry and a case in this connection already stands registered in Woman Cell Police Station at Gandhi Nagar.
“They (in-laws of his daughter) killed my daughter for not fulfilling their dowry demands. I demand immediate arrest of Ashu’s husband and her in-laws and strict punishment for them”, he added.
After getting information, a team of senior police officials rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors assuring them that strict action will be taken against the persons, behind the death of the lady.
On the assurance the protestors dispersed and the vehicular movement was restored on the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway.
