Protest against BSNL authorities

Excelsior Correspondent
MENDHAR, July 18: The residents of  Mendhar and adjoining areas held massive protest demonstration against the poor services being provided by the BSNL authorities in the entire belt here today.
The people in large number assembled in the town and then moved towards main local BSNL exchange and staged protest there for some time.  Several members of Beopar Mandal joined the protest. They were raising slogans against CGM, BSNL  J&K Circle and GM concerned. They alleged that officials of the BSNL have totally surrendered before the private companies and were deliberately providing poor services so that people switch over to other private companies.
The people alleged that BSNL exchanges at Dhar Galoon, Mankote have no staff  and security guards have been assigned the job. Many BSNL towers remain un-operational  and the fuel provided by the company for operation of towers in case of power failure go pilferaged/ unutilized. There was no check on the lower staff and many posts of the BSNL officers were lying vacant in the area. Telephone exchanges remain out of order and landline phone remain disconnected for days together. There was nobody to listen to the woes of  the public.  Mobile phone connectivity is very poor. Frequent call drops/ breaking voice or poor quality voice in cell phones is the routine affair in this belt.
The people warned that they will be forced to put locks on these exchanges/ BSNL offices if the higher authorities of the company failed to intervene and improve services. They sought the intervention of DC Poonch  and Divisional Commissioner Jammu in this regard. They said that people are being made to pay bills even in case of worst kind of services being provided to them which is highly unjustified.
