Protective masks must for entry into Srinagar hospitals

SRINAGAR, Feb 1: With the spread of Coronavirus worldwide and the health authorities taking due precautions in J&K, the major hospitals in Srinagar have been declared as ‘no-go areas’ for people without protective masks.
Security personnel stationed outside entry points of all the hospitals were seen thoroughly checking people and making sure that they all wear masks before going inside.
“We have been asked to make sure that whosoever goes inside wears a mask. And what we are reinforcing; it is for their own safety and also for the safety of others,” a security personnel said.
The development has come after the Health Department asked all the hospitals to take due precautionary measures in the wake of virus outbreak, following with a slew of measures taken by the SKIMS and Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar.
It is pertinent to mention here that both the hospitals have put in place the isolation wards-if the need arises-and has also kept all the necessary requirements in place for the effective screening of the suspected patients. The hospitals, as per their administrators, have also put in place a sufficient stock of required medicines and protection gears.
While all the arrangements have been put in place, the authorities are maintaining that they have activated the ‘prevention’ mode and are doing whatever is important.
“Luckily, there is no such case reported here and we pray that it remains the same, but we will have to take the preventive measures and whatever you see around is a part of the preventive mechanism that has been activated,” Dr Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent, SKIMS said.
Authorities across the hospitals appealed people to take due precautions and do not enter into the hospitals without protective masks for their own safety and for the safety of others.
The doctors stationed at emergency sections of all major hospitals in Srinagar, who are the first contact with the people coming from outside however, said that there is a need for the hospital administration and others concerned to carry out an effective awareness.
“People must be educated about do’s and don’t’s; the awareness should be clubbed into the prevention mode which has been carried out-it will help a great deal,” a doctor said.
