Protecting forests

Sir,
Protecting forests is the primary duty of every one, as the benefits we derive from them, are immense and beyond description. Called “Green gold; forests contribute heavily in our happiness. But so called people  friendly Govts pay no heed in this direction. Ruthless cuttings of trees, devastating fires and encroachments have reduced the size of our jungles. Planting trees, an effective method to enrich jungles and to keep them green and fresh, is hardly done anywhere, and if something is done, it is only on papers. The materialistic approach of life that engulfs the whole society, hasn’t left the department untouched. Where used to be thick jungles, habitations are seen now-a-days.
Naturally, who else can be responsible for such settlements, needs no mention. Obviously, it  isn’t the handy work of days, months but of uncounted years, when the Govts remained slept dreaming about their votes bank. Now, since much of the water stands  flown and the jungles have been reduced to zero area, what requires now, is enforcement of the laws strictly to check further minimisation of forest land and to thicken it through plantation. The beat guards should be given long tenures and held responsible for growth, enrichment and protection of the areas under them. Maps of every jungle need to be made available so that unwanted intervention of Revenue Department is avoided. Sufficient funds to engage casual labourers for extinguishing fires in peak months of  hot days, need to provided. Simply chanting slogans ‘Jungles Bachao’ can’t help, until we are sincerely engaged in this sacred Mission.
Yours etc….
