JAMMU, Apr 20: Prof. Ved Kumari Ghai, Chairperson, Shri Gandhi Seva Sadan, called on N.N. Vohra, Governor, here at the Raj Bhavan today.
Prof. Ghai submitted a project, costing over Rs. 15 lakh, prepared by the Gandhi Seva Sadan for the establishment of new and enlargement of the existing manufacturing and packing units of mostly hand made hawan materials at its Jakh Centre. Prof. Ghai requested financial support from the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Katra for implementing this project and briefed the Governor how the local people of the area would be enabled to get employment and thereby helping their financial upliftment.
The Governor assured Prof. Ghai that the project proposal would receive very early consideration by the Board.
Meanwhile, a delegation of S.O.S International led by its President Rajiv Chuni also called on Mr. Vohra.
The delegation put forth various demands relating to Displaced Persons (DPs) of Pak occupied Kashmir (PoK) which include registration of left over displaced families, according Refugee Status, one-time financial settlement, reservation in various professional and technical colleges in India, political reservation by way of reserving 8 Assembly seats, grant of State Subject status to DPs residing outside the State, application of “Displaced Persons Compensation and Rehabilitation Act, 1954” (Central Act) to DPs from PoK and constitution of PoK Diplaced Persons’ Development Board.
The Governor assured the delegation that their demands would be taken up with the State and Central Governments.
The delegation comprised Dr. Gurmeet Singh, J.S. Mangal, Lalit Kumar, Master Yog Raj Raina, Roshan Lal, Roshan Malhotra, Mohit Puria, Virender Khajuria, Harjeet Singh, Sat Paul Lakha and Raghunandan Bali.
