Priyanka begins her journey from remote border village to Flying Officer

SAMBA, Aug 20: Priyanka Chaudhary of border village Kangwala in Samba district has brought laurels to her village as well as to Jammu and Kashmir UT by becoming a Flying Officer in the Indian Air Force. Priyanka Chaudhary is the daughter of an Army soldier and she was determined to serve the country since her childhood and carry forward the legacy of her family as both her father and grand father have served in the Indian Army. Priyanka’s father has retired as a JCO in the Army.
“I came from a family which has the defence background as my father and grand father have served the Indian Army and I decided to carry forward the legacy”, said Priyanka while talking to Excelsior.
“I want to prove myself at the Academy and later in serving my country as an Air Force Officer so that the other girls especially from rural background get inspired and they also come forward in joining Air Force or Indian Army by cracking the competitive examinations”.
An alumni of Krishtu Jyoti Convent School Samba and Adarsh Peeth Samba, Priyanka gives full credit of her success to her parents including her father Ujjager Singh and mother Santosh Kumari a house wife. “My parents always supported me and were on my back. They as well as my teachers were my inspiration”, she added.
She said “I was fond of going to the army since childhood and I had given a paper for Lieutenant even before this but at that time I could not get selected but I did not give up and continued my struggle and this time I am going to be a Flying Officer in the Air Force and I am Feeling very happy”.
The people of the village also feel elated with joy as this promising girl from a border village proved that nothing is impossible provided one has determination and fixed aim. “They said our village will be now recognized by her and we all feel proud of our daughter and wish her all success in life.”
Her father Ujjager Singh said that in our society the daughters are married soon, but we supported out daughter to accomplish her goal to show the society that a village girl is in no way less incompetent to those coming from urban and affluent background.
Ravinder Singh Sonu, the Naib Sarpanch of the village said that as soon as villagers came to know about her selection, they all rushed to her house in joy to congratulate her. “We really feel proud that this daughter has not only illuminated the name of our village but the entire Jammu and Kashmir”. He said that our daughter has become a role model for the other girls.
