JAMMU, May 17: Senior BJP leader and former Minister, Priya Sethi asserted that there is dire need to disseminate information about J&K’s rich cultural legacy and vibrant heritage as the generation next is not in touch with the magnanimity of the people who ruled and lived in this splendid part of the country.
The BJP functionary was addressing the gathering during an impressive curtain raising event organised here at Jeo Pota Ghat in connection with 200th Coronation Day of Maharaja Gulab Singh falling on June 17.
Speaking about the month-long celebrations, she said that several programmes including painting competition, storytelling, Swachhta drive and seminars highlighting the significance of revered Chander Jeo Pota Ghat and Pandav Gufa will be held in the run-up to the Coronation Day celebrations next month.
It is pertinent to mention that Maharaja Gulab Singh was administered ‘Raj Tilak’ by the Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh at ‘Jeo Pota Ghat’ on June 17, 1822 AD and became the first Maharaja (King) of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State.
Rajeev Sharma former MLA, Bharat Bhushan DDC Chairman Jammu, Sanjay Saraf MC President, Mahant Ramasher Dass, Omi Khajuria, VK Sehgal, Jagdish Bhagat District President, Neelam Sarin MVDSB Member, Sham Lal, Surinder Sharma and many others were present during the event.
