JAMMU, Jan 16: Minister of State for Education, Tourism and Culture, Priya Sethi stressed on the need of encouraging rural sports like Kabaddi in State’s sports structure which has good potential and scope in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Minister was speaking during the inaugural ceremony of Junior District Kabaddi Championship-2018, Jammu organized by Jammu District Kabaddi Association (JDKA) at Green Field Ground, here yesterday.
A total of 35 teams of boys and girls from Jammu district are participating in the tournament.
President, J&K Amateur Kabaddi Association (JKAKA), Anil Gupta presided over the function whereas former Director, Youth Services & Sports, Asgar Ali was the guest of honor.
The Minister appreciated the organizers for providing a platform to the local talent especially the female players to display their ability and encourage them to compete at higher level.
Government is making concerted efforts for the growth of rural sports; the Minister said adding that a gradual transformation can be witnessed towards the development of sports scenario in the State.
Meanwhile, SSP Randeep Kumar, Commandant IRP 10th Battalion and Yudhvir Sethi, Vice President, BJP declared open the 2nd day’s proceedings of the Championship as the chief guest and the guest of honour. Anil Gupta, President J&K Amateur Kabaddi Association presided over the function.
In the matches played today, Pul Tawi defeated rivals by 15 points, Bhartiya Shiksha got the better of Nagrota Panchyat by 17 points, Deshmesh Bhartiya Vidya Mandir beat Bhartiya Shiksha Kendra by 20 points, Vishav Bharti defeated Govt Higher Secondary School Nagrota by 5 points, Unique Public School thrashed Pragmatic School by 34 points, RS Pura GM defeated Sunrise Higher Secondary School by 19 points, ICT RS Pura got the better of Jagriti Mission Talab Tillo by 12 points, Vishav Bharti School drubbed Shiv Public School by 17 points, Jagriti Mission Talab Tillo outclassed Pragmatic School by 23 points, Shiv Public School prevailed over GH Sohal by 16 points, Nowabad Talab Tillo defeated Bharti Shiksha Kendra by 4 points, SOS Herman School trounced Govt High School Khirpin by 17 points.
