JAMMU, Jan 16: 15th Bhai Gurbax Singh Memorial Korfball Championship began at Green Field, Gandhi Nagar, here today.
14 teams drawn from 12 districts of the State are taking part in the Championship.
The Tournament was inaugurated by S. Tarlok Singh, President J&K Korfball Association.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Arshad Hussain, In-charge Principal Army Goodwill School Shopian, Gulzar Ahmed, Secretary Baramulla District Association, Showkat Rasool, Secretary Pulwama, Manjit Singh, RK Sharma and Deshbandhu.
On the opening day, Pulwama beat Anantnag by (12-1). Parvez and Irfan from Pulwama scored 4 goals each; Shopian defeated Bandipura by (5-3).
Mustafa scored all 5 goals from Shopian; Pulwama outplayed Baram-ulla (6-1).
Irfan and Showkat scored 2 goals each; Shopian trounced Kulgam (9-0), Munir and Muzafar scored 4 goals each; Anantnag drubbed Baramulla (8-0), Anish and Irshad scored 3 goals each; Bandipora beat Kulgam (3-1); Jammu West prevailed over Rajouri (8-3); Jammu South drubbed Poonch 7-1 and Samba got the better of Udhampur (6-2).
Manjit Singh, Irfan Choudhry and Mohit Singh officiated the matches.
