Principal of GCW Parade attached as students continue protest for 2nd day

JAMMU, Aug 23: Following strong protest by the students for the second consecutive day, the Department of Higher Education today ordered attachment of Principal Government College for Women, Parade, Jammu with immediate effect.
Pending enquiry, she has been attached with Director Colleges, Higher Education Department while Geetanjali Andotra, Incharge Principal under orders of transfer to GDC Banihal, has been posted as I/c Principal Government College for Women, Parade, Jammu.
“Pending enquiry into the matter, Anita  Sudan, Principal Government College for Women, Parade, Jammu is hereby attached with Director Colleges, Higher Education Department with immediate effect,” says Government order number 489-HE of 2017, issued today after  authorities held closed-door meeting with some representatives of the protesting students at DC Office Jammu, the officials said.
Earlier, students of the GCW Parade boycotted their classes and took to the streets for the second consecutive day today to protest against alleged harassment by college management on the name of “dress code” and to demand removal of the Principal.

Joined by students of different colleges, including leaders of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the Women College students marched towards the office of Deputy Commissioner Jammu, where they were stopped by the policemen at the main gate.
The protesting students were shouting slogans for immediate removal of the College Principal and had been carrying placards and banners in support of their demand. They  staged a sit-in near the DC Jammu and then submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner highlighting the alleged harassment they were y facing at the college in the name of discipline and `dress code’.
Later, authorities held closed-door meeting with ABVP and student representatives following which the order for attachment of the Principal was issued. The protesting students, dispersed off peacefully after the Government decision on attachment of the Principal was conveyed to them by the authorities.
It may be recalled that the students of GCW Parade had yesterday took to streets and held a massive protest demonstration against the Principal alleging harassment to them by the college management on the name of discipline and dress code. They had also alleged misbehavior with them by a peon   at the college main gate and passing of lewd remarks.
In support of the protesting Parade College students, demonstrations were also held at MAM College and Akhnoor College. They were also demanding action against the GCW Parade College Principal and an independent probe into the allegations against her.
The protesting students at MAM College and Akhnoor College were joined by the activists of NCSU, United Students Forum, NPSU, NSF and NYC.
