JAMMU, June 2: Amid rising cases of the forest fires in Jammu region, JKPCC Senior Vice President & Chief Spokesperson, Ravinder Sharma today urged upon the government to prevent destruction of flora and fauna in forests.
In a press statement issued here today, Sharma said that the rising forest fires in Jammu and Kashmir are emerging as one of the major environmental hazards thus needed immediate attention of the government.
“In the last several months including winter, forest fires were witnessed in various areas of J&K including Line of Control in Poonch and Rajouri districts. The massive forest fires have ravaged the entire forests in Kalidhar range of Sunderbani- Akhnoor but the resultant huge smoke clouds have made life of people especially old, aged – ailing persons a hell, while administration sleeps,” he said.
“The entire administration is clueless of the acute hardships being faced by the people and seems helpless to deal with the situation and come to the rescue of suffering people. My own house is more than two kms away from forest but I too experienced great difficulty for two days, before I left for Jammu,” he added.
He further asked the Chief Secretary to immediately direct emergency steps to relieve people of great hardships before saving forests from further damage, which have suffered great damage.
