NEW DELHI, Oct 5:
Strengthening audit practices and public financial reporting are among the key topics to come up for discussion at a three-day conference of accountant generals to be inaugurated here by President Pranab Mukherjee on Monday.
The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) which is organising the conference said in a statement today, “in the public domain there is an increasing awareness and demand for transparency and accountability in public sector service delivery. The CAG is seen as the agency which is mandated to keep a watch on economic, efficient and effective governance”.
Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, Public Accounts Committee Chairman Murli Manohar Joshi and Chairman of Committee on Public Undertakings Jagdambika Pal would be among the speakers at the conference, to be held between October 8-10. CAG Vinod Rai will address the inaugural session.
The Indian Audit and Accounts Department (IA&AD), headed by the CAG, discharges its professional duties, both as an auditor and an accountant. (PTI)
