Pranab’s Mirati to welcome Maa Durga with heavy heart

NEW DELHI, Oct 17: Had former President Pranab Mukherjee, -‘Chanakya’ of Indian politics- been alive, he would have even helped country to come out of ‘Corona crisis,’ as he had ‘saved’ India from political crisis on a number of occasions through his stewardship.
Such is the ‘belief’ of not only some Congress workers or supporters relating to the ‘accumen’ of the late great leader, but the people of Mirati village in Birbhum district as a whole with the onset of Navratri.
Incidentally, the beloved patron is no more, but preparations for Durga Puja are in full swing at ‘Mukherjee Bari’ in the district with a ‘heavy heart.’
According to reports, the devoted family artisan is busy making the ‘Pratima’ inside the temple on the hallowed premises and members of an extended family are seeking scholarly opinions on how rituals must be observed.
Informatively, right from the time he (Pranab Mukherjee) was a junior minister in Indira Gandhi’s Government to when he became the President of India, he never skipped the annual celebration at an otherwise nondescript hamlet.
“We will host Durga Puja like every year, albeit with a heavy heart. The absence of my father will be sorely felt. But, the Puja is just not a family affair. Common people of this area look forward to it. The age-old tradition must not stop,” said late Pranab Mukherjee’s son Abhijit Mukherjee, a former MP.
Late 84-year-old Mukherjee, the ‘Bharat Ratna,’ died in a hospital here on August 31 after brain surgery. He had also tested Covid-19 positive. (UNI)
