Potato futures up 1.24 pc as demand picks up

NEW DELHI, Apr 9:  Potato prices rose by 1.24 per cent to Rs 1,375.70 per quintal in futures trade today, as traders created fresh positions on the back of rising demand in the spot market.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potato for May contract rose by Rs 16.90, or 1.24 per cent, to Rs 1,375.70 per quintal, with a trading volume of 159 lots.
The delivery for the April contract also traded higher by Rs 13.60, or 1.06 per cent, to Rs 1,291 per quintal with a business volume of 105 lots.
Marketmen said the rise in potato prices at futures trade was attributed to the rising spot demand amid restricted arrivals from producing belts in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and West Bengal. (PTI)
