UDHAMPUR, June 29: Fire broke out in fourth floor of Jagriti Old Age Home, behind head post office Udhampur, here today while the forest fires in Udhampur and Reasi was spreading fast despite hectic efforts to control the blazes.
Reports said that fire broke out in store of the fourth floor of the Old Age Home , this evening and completely gutted the furniture as well as other articles in the store. However, there was no loss of life or injuries to anyone in the incident.
Locals along with Udhampur Fire Station team managed to control the fire after hectic efforts . According to the management of Jagriti Old Age Home, there was estimated loss of property worth two to three lakh rupees.
Meanwhile, reports said that the massive fire that broke out in the forests near power house Udhampur, has engulfed a large number of small and large trees in forest area of around four kilometer .
The forest fire had started yesterday morning and before it could be controlled, the blazes spread to a vast area. Even as the Fire tenders managed to douse flames in outer portion of the forest near Power House, the blazes were still spreading in the interiors.
Reports from Reasi also said that a major fire broke out in forest area near Bidda and Sai Lanjan in Arnas. The fire was spreading fast and approaching towards residential areas, locals said.
