Portion of LD Hospital gutted

Srinagar, Nov 5: A major fire broke out at Srinagar’s lone Maternity Hospital, Lal Ded Memorial Hospital, tonight, gutting the Out Patients Department.
Fire tenders were immediately rushed to the spot and over a dozen of them doused the flames. Four fire men were injured in fire fighting and they were shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment.
The patients were immediately shifted to the other buildings of the hospital by the police, fire service and attendants of the patients.
Scores of ambulances from other hospitals were rushed to the LD Hospital to meet any exigency. Officials from the fire services said that the fire started from the waiting room in the Out Patients Department and within minutes and it engulfed the entire building.
It took around an hour to douse the flames. The building that was gutted was housing almost 30 years old medical record of patients, a drug store and waiting room for attendants of patients besides OPD.
Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Srinagar Ghulam Jeelani, who was on the spot, said the cause of the fire could not be ascertained yet.
