JAMMU, Apr 29: As businesses continue to be hit due to the Corona virus-enforced lockdown, senior BJP leader and ex-Deputy CM, Kavinder Gupta, who today distributed ration kits and items of daily use and LPG cylinders in Bhour camp locality of Gandhi Nagar Constituency, said that given the potential impact of COVID-19 on the economy, there is an emergent need to take up policy decisions, individually and jointly, to combat the economic slowdown in J&K.
Speaking to people at Bhour Camp, he emphasized the need for forthwith reviving business activity in J&K for the revival of economic growth in the UT.
“After the Corona virus-enforced countrywide lockdown, business activity in J&K, like other parts of the country, has come to a standstill. Because of this, J&K’s economic growth has stopped. Let the Government get serious for the immediate revival of business activity in UT, following the guidelines of Government of India in this regard,” Gupta said.
“Before the global pandemic turns into an economic pandemic, Government should work out plans to open industries and other business concerns,” he added.
“If industries, shops and other business concerns remain closed for a long time, their managements may be forced to oust their employees, which, in turn, can lead to a situation where the latter will be left with no money to even make their both ends meet. There is a need to save these businesses and those whose livelihood depends on them,” the BJP leader said.
“The sales and purchases have been badly hit. While the Government has started taking some steps to keep the businesses afloat, more needs to be done. The Government should take a few more steps to ensure aid to the hitherto ailing business sector in J&K,” he asserted.
At Bhour camp, Gupta distributed ration kits, masalas, other items of daily use and LPG cylinders to the needy and helpless people.
