SRINAGAR, Feb 23 : After recent attacks in South Srinagar, three Police officers have been transferred as part of new strategy adopted by the security forces to prevent attacks in Srinagar
Inspector Tariq Ahmad Sofi who was Station House Officer, Police Station Saddar where the attack took place last week has been transferred and so has been Owais Ahmad Geelani of Police Post Chanpora and Sheikh Vakil of Police Post Rangreth. Shah and Geelani have been shifted to DPL Srinagar.
Inspector Ifitkhar Hussain Shah has been posted as SHO PS Saddar, Rakesh Pandita as DO PP Rangreth and Sheikh Vakil as PP Chanpora.
The transfer of the police officers comes after security review following a series of attacks in Srinagar and inputs to the security agencies that the militants are trying to target Srinagar city. The militants who carry out attacks mostly come from South Kashmir so security agencies are focussing more on South of Srinagar with borders Pulwama district, which is thought to be hot bed of militancy.
In the security review which was taken by the IGP Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, he asked the officers for enhancement of security surveillance of all vital establishments and locations besides to take care of vulnerable persons to thwart the nefarious designs of militants in the city.
He stressed for round the clock checkpoints at strategic locations, surprise checkpoints, surprise and limited cordon and search operations in crowded places, placing cut-off points on exit routes immediately after such an incident and dominating from high reaches, use of drones to check the movement of elements inimical to peace.
After the security review, security forces intensified security in Srinagar and is conducting surprise checks and cordon and search operation in Srinagar and its outskirts to prevent militants enter the city.
As the militant who carried out attack in Baghat area of Srinagar last week was wearing Kashmiri gown -Pheran and had hid rifle under it before carrying out the attack, people during the search operations were asked to remove the Pheran.
