SRINAGAR:A senior officer of Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police was killed when militants attacked a search party in Srinagar, in north Kashmir district of Bandipora, about 55 km from here.
Official sources today said a police party from Rajbagh police station in Srinagar alongwith local force launched a search operation in village Dachin in Bandipora following a tip-off about the presence of some top militants.
However, when the security forces were sealing the particular area, militants attacked them with automatic weapons resulting in injuries to Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Altaf Ahmad. The injured was airlifted and admitted to Army base hospital here.
Altaf later died in the hospital, they said. Additional security forces were rushed to the area and massive search operation has been launched there, they said adding that further details were awaited. (UNI)
