Police intensifies anti-drug drive in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, May 13: The police today intensified its anti-drug drive in South Kashmir by arresting two drug-peddlers, retrieving encroached State land from a drug accused, destroying illegal cultivation and conducting awareness programmes under the Nasha Mukt Abhiyan.
A police spokesperson said that in Shopian, Police arrested a man and recovered 928 grams of Charas from his possession during naka checking at Aaripora Turkwangam. In Anantnag, Police arrested another drug peddler and recovered 505 grams of Charas powder from his possession. Cases have been registered in both incidents.
The spokesperson further said that in Kulgam, Police along with the District Administration retrieved 06 Marlas of State land worth around Rs. 18 lakhs from the illegal possession of a drug peddler involved in NDPS cases.
In Pulwama, Police conducted searches at the residences of suspected drug peddlers, destroyed poppy straw plants and wild bhang at different locations and continued action against narcotics-related activities, the spokesperson said.
