Police intensifies anti-drug drive across Kashmir

SRINAGAR, May 19: Under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Abhiyaan, coordinated anti-narcotics operations were carried out across all major districts of the Valley today, leading to arrests of drug peddlers, recovery of contraband, destruction of illicit poppy cultivation, attachment of properties, and extensive awareness activities.
Police spokesperson said in Ananatnag, police registered multiple FIRs during anti-drug operations in Pahalgam, Bijbehara, Sangam and Aishmuqam areas. He added Illegal poppy cultivation was destroyed, and major recoveries were made including around 3.340 kg of charas-like substance from a residential house. Several suspects were also arrested during naka checking with heroin-like substances recovered.
In Pulwama, the spokesperson said two drug peddlers were arrested during naka operations at Nikas and Hakripora with heroin-like substances recovered, and cases were registered under the NDPS Act.
In Baramulla, one accused was arrested with charas-like substance and another was later apprehended after investigation, with recovery linked to drug transport using a vehicle, “Separate awareness and enforcement actions were also carried out in Sheeri and surrounding areas,” the spokesperson said
In Srinagar, police attached a residential house and land worth around Rs.1.50 crore belonging to a drug peddler in Parimpora, declaring it proceeds of narcotics trafficking under NDPS provisions.
In Kupwara, the spokesperson said police attached 04 Kanals and 08 Marlas of land in Karnah (Teetwal area) linked to drug trafficking and other serious offences under NDPS Act, Arms Act and UAPA after due legal process.
In Bandipora, joint teams destroyed illegal poppy cultivation in Ashtangoo Ghat and Dardpora Arin areas, registered FIRs, and also took preventive action against 16 drug peddlers by producing them before magistrates for binding down, the spokesperson said.
In Budgam, police destroyed poppy cultivation in Khansahib area and registered FIRs after completing legal formalities with revenue and excise officials.
In Handwara, a drug peddler was arrested at Bagatpora during naka checking with contraband substances recovered, and FIR under NDPS Act was registered.
In Verinag area of Anantnag district, a chemist shop “Hamad Drug Store” was sealed during a joint inspection by police and the Drug Control Department for violations of norms.
