KATHUA, May 19: Public Welfare Forum (PWF) chairman and former president of Plus Two Lecturers Forum JK, Amar Nath Thakur, has appealed to Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, Education Minister, Sakeena Itoo and Administrative Secretary, School Education Department, Ram Niwas Sharma, to fill all vacant posts of Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs), Headmasters and Lecturers through DPC at the earliest.
He stated that non-filling of these vital posts for years together is badly affecting the functioning of the School Education Department and seriously harming the studies and future of students, particularly in rural and far-flung areas.
He observed that education, which should be the top priority of both the Central Government and the Government of Jammu and Kashmir because it is directly related to the future of the youth, unfortunately appears to be receiving the least priority.
Thakur further demanded immediate rationalization of Vice Principals, Principals, Lecturers, Masters and Teachers without any further delay. He said the careers of poor and rural students cannot be allowed to be ruined due to shortage and mismanagement of teaching staff.
He highlighted the alarming number of vacant posts of ZEOs in Jammu Division saying out of 98 sanctioned posts, 68 are lying vacant.
Thakur further stated that a large number of ZEO posts are also lying vacant in Kashmir Division, which is equally affecting educational administration and monitoring in schools there. He urged the Government to immediately initiate the DPC process and fill all vacant posts across both Jammu and Kashmir divisions in the larger interest of students and the education system.
He appealed to the Government to treat education as an emergency priority sector and ensure proper staffing in all schools and educational offices across Jammu and Kashmir.
