JAMMU, Jan 2: Jammu Kashmir Pradesh Congress Migrant Cell, Chairman H L Pandita and general secretary, Chuni Lal Kandi have expressed grave concern over the harassment caused to common masses by the police after taking wrong advantage of newly framed traffic rules.
The two leaders in a joint statement issued here, today said that police was harassing the law abiding citizens on the name of traffic rules and slapping challans on them unnecessarily after charging them of violation of rules. They said today some people driving their car in Bantalab area were caught by the police when they parked the four wheeler in front of a Chemist shop to purchase the medicines.
They said it is unfortunate that in the entire area from Janipur to Bantalab or ahead there is no parking slot and the people have to park the vehicles on road side to make some emergency purchases like medicines and police instead of understanding the problem is harassing them by slapping challans which is unfortunate. The duo said it is mandatory to maintain the rules but for keeping the rule the police must not break its spirit.
The Congress leaders said recently another person was slapped challan by Traffic Police for picking up a packed bag of goods from a shopkeeper at Jewel. He parked the car just for a second to pick the bag which shopkeeper handed over to him.
They said those who violate the traffic rules go scot free and law abiding people are harassed by the police on the name of new traffic rules. The party leaders also warned to launch protest against the highhandedness of police.
