JAMMU, Jan 2: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH) remained closed on 2nd day today for vehicular traffic due to landslides in Chanderkot and Digdol areas of Ramban.
“Over 5,000 vehicles were stranded on the National Highway for the past two days due to landslides,” officials said today. They added that the landslides were reported today from Karol in Chanderkot near Jaiswal bridge today and yesterday from Digdol.
Over 5,000 vehicles have been stranded at different places on the highway and no fresh traffic is being allowed, the officials said, adding, of these 2,500 Heavy Motor Vehicles and 1,000 Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) were stranded between Digdol and the Jawahar Tunnel while as about 70 LMVs were stranded in Ramban since last night.
Though the agencies concerned have been busy in clearing the landslides since early morning, it will be very difficult to clear the road for traffic by late tonight, the officials said.
The vehicular traffic on NH was closed yesterday after a landslide blocked the road in Digdol area of Ramban.
