JAMMU, Nov 13: Police today foiled a march of ABVP activists who were proceeding towards the Civil Secretariat for staging a dharna there in support of their demands.
Police also used mild lathicharge on the ABVP activists and some of them were taken into preventive custody. A few ABVP activists, including JU unit president Shubam Amar also sustained minor injuries and they were referred to hospital.
The trouble erupted early this evening when some ABVP activists assembled near Kachi Chawni and marched towards the Civil Secretariat amidst raising of slogans. As Police did not allow them to proceed further, a scuffle like situation took place there.
The protesting ABVP activists were demanding rolling back of semester system for UG courses in Jammu Kashmir, fulfilling the Government promise of 50000 jobs, filling up of vacant posts in Education sector, laws for preventing commercialization and privatization of education, change of name of SKUAST to Jammu Agriculture University, making Dogri and Sanskrit as mandatory subjects in order to develop the regional and traditional language and CBI probe into JKPSC appointment during the previous Government era.
Yesterday, these ABVP activists had staged a dharna in front of Civil Secretariat but Police evicted them late in the night.
